The Controller focuses on the decision that must be made now: which bounded command is appropriate under the measurements, applied command, objective and limits supplied to the controller.
Return a command or setpoint recommendation from the latest control-ready state.
Apply declared command bounds, maximum command change and controller horizon.
Report when the controller is ready and when the result is degraded instead of hiding that state.
Workflow
The product has a short, repeatable operating path. It does not require the customer to buy the separate Analytics surface.
Provide synchronized measurements, the actual applied command and any contextual drives required by the selected controller mode.
Set command bounds, maximum change, horizon and the applicable state or control weights.
Get readiness, controller mode, recommended command and any degraded-state reason. A stop/disarm path remains available.

Operating boundary
The self-service product recommends; it does not silently take command authority over physical equipment.
Autonomous actuation is a separate restricted capability requiring its own authorization and commissioning. It is not included in the ordinary self-service Controller product.
